Anyone who has known me for more than a month or so knows that my favorite television series of all time is Twin Peaks. I don’t think it was the best show that’s ever aired. I don’t even think it had the best writing or even acting. However, taken as a whole, it is the most unique, mind-boggling, infectious and addictive television program that I’ve ever witnessed. (And I count myself as a Trekker.)

There’s word at TVShowsonDVD.com that season 2 of Twin Peaks will probably be coming out before the end of 2005. This makes me very happy as the only version of season two sold commercially were on EP Mode VHS tapes. So, after two viewings they have pretty much looked like shit ever since. For a show that was shot so beautifully that’s a real shame.

Hopefully Paramount (who owns the rights) will do as well as Artisan did with season one. The season one set had gorgeous prints and the show looked and sounded better than it did when it originally aired.

Suffice to say this internet buzz has me a bit excited and I do hope that it turns out to be true.

Now, I’m off for a cup of black coffee (as black as midnight on a moonless night) and a piece of miracle cherry pie.

I was watching TCM the other day, waiting for a Bob Hope/Bing Crosby ‘Road’ picture to come on. (Oops, better change that to Bing Crosby/Bob Hope ‘Road’ picture. Bing always got top billing, save for one movie.)

TCM often plays one-reelers between their movies and they played a very interesting short called ‘Mr. Blabbermouth.’

It was a WWII propaganda film, telling viewers to shut their mouths, stop asking questions and trust that the government has everything under control.

WWII was a completely different situation than the war that we are involved in now, but I found it a little eerie to see that things just never change.

On a more uplifting note, TCM is having a ‘Summer of the Stars’ promotion this month where they play movies starring one particular performer for 24 hours. Today’s star was Clint Eastwood, so my husband enjoyed watching ‘Hang ‘em High’, a film he hadn’t seen for quite some time.

I’m personally looking forward to Wednesday’s star – Jean Harlow. I’ve only been a fan of Harlow’s for about a year now and have only seen a few of her films. ‘Hell’s Angels’ is playing at 8:00, which is the only color film that she made. However, only one segment of the film is in color and it was shot using the 2-strip color process, which wasn’t nearly as ‘true’ as the later three-step technicolor process.

And speaking of classic films and that wonderful, rich Technicolor, Warners is finally releasing a Special Edition DVD of Gone With the Wind. For those of you who have avoided seeing it becuase it sounds over-rated, I encourage you to give it a chance. It’s highly celebrated for good reason and is more than a soap opera. (I also encourage you to read the book, which is quite different from the film.) The DVD is going on sale in November of this year and I’ll definitely be picking this one up on it’s release date.
